With Ruben Amorim now looking very likely to take over as the new Manager at Old Trafford, I am left with mixed feelings.
I grew up supporting Manchester Utd, FC Barcelona and Sporting Clube de Portugal, possibly in that order for as long as I can remember.
With Amorim on the verge of moving to Man Utd from Sporting, he is a manager that shall serve United well. The added interest in a few Sporting players for next season would be the icing on the cake and I personally feel he will do himself and the club proud if he does make the switch…
However, Sporting are likely to be worst hit! €10m as a transfer fee if reports are to be believed, is not all that much money in the modern game and Amorim has done wonders at Sporting. Not only have Sporting finally become a force to reckon with in Portugal in over a decade but more importantly a lot of the academy players came through the ranks, 25 in 4 yrs which includes young raw fresh talent acquired from elsewhere which I think is remarkable and speaks volumes of his ability to mould young talent.
More importantly however, United will stand to the gain from a man who is very likely to win the dressing room and the fans over very quickly by his mere style and personality… Time will decide!
